Level 3 NCFE CACHE Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)
Preparing you to start your career as an Early Years Educator in a variety of roles, this course will give you the skills and experience you need to work with children from birth to five years of age.
Course Information
The level 3 diploma is a 1-year course that prepares learners to work with children in an early years education setting. Upon achievement of this qualification, you’ll be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators in your chosen speciality. The course is made up of written assessments, a longitudinal study, and a substantial work placement.

Your learning on the course will be structured around three themes as follows:
- Theme 1: Health and well-being
- Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
- Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
Assessment Types
Entry Requirements
You should have a L2 STL or L2 EYE qualification with either English or Maths GCSE at a grade 4 (C) or functional skills at level 2.
OR
Substantial experience in an educational or early years setting, along with 4 GCSEs at grade 3 and above, including English Language and Maths. In addition, either English or Maths GCSE needs to be at a grade 4 (C).
Career Progression
Upon achievement of this qualification, you will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Roles may include:
- Assistant in Children's Centre
- Practitioner in nursery school
- Practitioner in reception class in primary school
- Pre-school worker
