Transform your ideas into digital reality with this technical programme.You’ll explore technical skills ranging from video editing to animation as you craft concepts and bring them to life using industry standard software. You will also gain an understanding of the wider creative digital industry and how it influences computer games.

Who is this course for?

If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (3) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses).

You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

Knowledge

You will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of:

  • Different audiences needs and how to produce content which meets those needs
  • Media language to understand how messages are communicated to an audience
  • A range of pre-production processes with consideration of the impact that these pre-production decisions can have on the quality of the final product.

Skills

You will have the ability to:

  • Utilise a range of software and hardware to produce content in line with industry conventions, apply rigorous primary and secondary research skills to The development of products, and critically evaluate research sources as well as production work in order to make effective improvements to completed products.

Develop positive working relationships with others in order to produce industry standard content, build resilience by responding positively to feedback from staff and peers and implement this feedback to make improvements to work produced, and productivity - organises work effectively and achieves required results within deadlines, demonstrating the drive and energy to get things done in pressurised situations and escalating appropriately when necessary.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English or maths. English and maths will be built into your course if your grades are below 4.

After studying the new Level 2 Computer Games course at Leeds City College you may have the opportunity to further your aspirations by progressing on to our Level 3 Games Design, Esport, Animation, an apprenticeship, or relevant employment.
