The CPQ is a new, competence-based qualification framework, that reflects the changing requirements of a rapidly evolving legal and business landscape. Developed in consultation with employers and other stakeholders, CPQ combines a focus on technical expertise and practical skills with developing the core behaviours required to drive forward thinking, commercially minded, adaptable lawyers who really understand the clients they serve.

In addition, the CPQ develops commercial understanding, allowing CILEx Lawyers to offer organisations much more than just authorised practitioner status. The CPQ develops commercial understanding, allowing CILEx Lawyers to offer organisations much more than just authorised practitioner status.

The CPQ ensures the appropriate progression and teaching of:

  • How legal technology presents an opportunity to improve processes for customers and organisations
  • How to evaluate and manage risk
  • How to communicate effectively, with different stakeholders and in different settings
  • Approaches to managing conflict, building relationships and working across boundaries
  • The importance of exploring developments in the sector, responding to change and seeking continuous improvement

The CPQ is a single qualification made up of three elements:

  • Assessment of legal knowledge and skills
  • Ethics and Professional Responsibility eLearning modules
