The Pathway enables you to develop an understanding of the knowledge, skills and experience required to work as a teaching assistant in a primary or secondary school.

The courses you will study are:

  • City and Guilds Entry level Employability - Preparing to Volunteer
  • NCFE/CACHE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools
  • NCFE CACHE LEVEL 1 Award in Understanding Safeguarding in Education and Childcare Settings

Course Information

The Pathway develops your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teaching assistant in a school. You will learn about supporting learning in the classroom as well as developing your understanding of behaviour management, how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people and health and safety policies and procedures. The Pathway is available to be studied online or face to face at a variety of venues. You will gain valuable qualifications which will enhance your CV and future career opportunities. Full training will be given to enable you to access the learning experiences provided online.

Career Progression

Progression may include Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 2. All students progressing onto vocational qualifications will need an enhanced DBS. Voluntary work experience in a school needed for level 2 teaching assistants.
