This qualification is a one-year full-time course, or studied as part of a two-year, full-time study programme. The extended certificate is a standalone qualification, however it is the first year of the national diploma in animal management should learners wish to complete the two-year programme. The course includes both practical and theoretical elements preparing learners for a career within the animal management sector or for further study.

Benefits / Skills

Learners are taught by subject specialists who have worked in a variety of contexts within the animal management sector. In addition, learners have access to a wide variety of species, including small mammals and exotics, housed within our purpose-built animal care centre. Learners will also undertake farm practicals at Home Farm within the Temple Newsam estate.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs including English OR Maths and Science.

Career Progression

The extended certificate is the academic equivalent of one A level and the two-year programme is the equivalent of two A levels, allowing learners to progress onto higher education should they wish. Learners get the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to pursue a variety of careers within the animal management sector.
