Course Information

This 1 year BTEC qualification is taught at Temple Newsam home farm in our industry standard facilities. The course will include both practical and theory elements assessed using a variety of methods.

Assessment types:

This course is assessed by practical assessments, internally set assignments and externally set tasks.

Who is this course for?

This qualification is for learners who want to start a career in animal care. It is designed for post-16 learners and can be taken as part of a wider study programme. It is an ideal qualification for learners intending to progress directly to employment in animal care, or to an animal care Apprenticeship (BTEC).

  • Practical animal health
  • Introduction to biology and animal health
  • Work placement
  • Animal welfare
  • Animal behaviour assessment and safe handling
  • Feeding, accommodation and movement of animals
