This course will teach you the essential skills to maintain your vehicle for everyday use. Learn how to check your vehicle’s critical fluid systems, remove and replace a wheel, check your tyres comply with the law and safety, and keep your paintwork in pristine condition.

This is a practical course taught in our extensive motor vehicle workshops. You will learn how to remove minor scratches, restore your vehicle’s trim, remove minor scratches, and restore your paintwork. You will gain maintenance knowledge to feel secure while driving.

Dave Selby – “Hi, my name is Dave Selby I’m programme manager for paint and body at Leeds City College here at the Printworks Campus.”

 

Scenery – A student is zipping up their protective overalls

 

Scenery – A student is putting on a helmet and respirator under guidance from a tutor. 

 

Dave Selby – “We try to keep up to industry standards, we visit garages on a regular basis. Talk about what they need, what they require from my students and then we’ll facilitate that here at the printworks.”

 

Scenery – A tutor is explaining how the spray gun works to a student.

 

Harrison – “Being in the booth is quite zen to be honest, you just get in there with the panel you’re going to be spraying, spray gun all hooked up mask down and you’re just away with your own thoughts spraying away until you get the job done. It’s quite peaceful.”

 

Scenery – A student is in the paint booth spraying a panel from a car

 

Dave Selby – “The students that have the most success are the ones with passion, you’ve got to have a passion for paint refinishing and bodywork, attention to detail is critical.”

 

Scenery – The student continues to spray the panel now under guidance from the tutor

 

Dave Selby – “If you’ve got a smashed up car and you’ve got to put it back to where it was at the beginning it has to look immaculate. So attention to detail, patience, a passion for the job and you’ll go far.”
