Course Information

Unlock the advanced skills needed for careers in animal welfare. Available as a one or two-year course, it provides you with a standalone qualification that can be topped up with a further year of study on the National Extended Diploma. You will deepen your understanding of animals by evaluating their feeding plans, learning how to recognise different types of behaviour, and monitoring, grooming and ensuring their accommodation is well-kept. You will also assist in the administration side of things, ensuring records and files are adequately maintained.


Who is this course for?

This qualification is for learners who aim to gain employment within the animal care industry, progress to an apprenticeship or a high-level animal management qualification.

  • Animal Welfare and Ethics
  • Praactical Animal husbandry
  • Animal Behaviour
  • Animal health and diseases
  • Exotic Animal Husbandry

This course is assessed via:

  • Externally assessed exams
  • Externally assessed synoptic assessments
  • Internally assessed module assignments

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 9 to 4, including English, maths and science. A level 2 Technical Diploma in Animal Care is also acceptable.

Career Progression

Progression may include further study on the Animal Management Foundation Diploma, an Access to HE (higher education) programme, or relevant employment.
