Our Supporting Children’s Language Course has been specifically designed and created to give parents the basic skills and confidence to actively support their childrens’ language and speaking skills at home and in connection with your in-school Early Years and KS1 programmes.

This course will motivate children as they acquire communication skills and can help parents and carers become more confident in supporting their child's early learning and development.

This is a specialist course that will provide practical support to parents and children in a fun, engaging and open plan method of delivery. The course is interactive and uses a range of activities to help parents understand how they can help their children to succeed and enjoy learning. The length of course can be adapted according to the audience.

This course will give mums, dads, carers and grandparents the chance to learn new skills and help children learn in a fun and friendly way. This course will help encourage family members to become involved in their children’s learning.

Course Information

This course will be delivered by an experienced adult education specialist in
your school or centre with the focus of supporting parents of child learners at
your school so that they can in turn support their development of language
skills.


Parents with the support of experienced course tutor will be shown and given
strategies and techniques to encourage and develop language and speaking skills.
These can include; pictionary, word jumble and storytelling.


This course will successfully raise children’s achievement through the
development of your parents’ literacy skills and encourage them to develop and
provide a supportive home environment to promote children’s learning.


Research from the National Skills Council 2019 has shown that children and
parents who have attended family learning courses such as this one achieve more
at school and in later life.

This is a course or programme which is available to local community parents/carers run by the Family Learning Team at Leeds City College.

This course or programme is aimed at both parents and schools who wish to support, develop and motivate their children as they acquire communication skills and can help parents and carers become more confident in supporting their child's early learning and development.
