Hair and Media Makeup VTCT Level 2 Diploma

This course is for those with a desire to work in the makeup industry in fashion and photography, or as a self-employed makeup artist.

During this level 2 programme, you will develop and enhance both fashion and photographic makeup techniques as well as creative hair styling. You will gain experience working alongside a professional photographer to build up an industry-ready portfolio. This portfolio will be an invaluable tool to showcase your work at interviews for higher education, employment, or social media promotion for freelance opportunities. Alongside this, you will have the opportunity to gain external work experience in theatre performances, fashion shows and much more.

You will be an enthusiastic, dedicated, and proactive student who wishes to become a successful creative makeup artist in various industries within a demanding and competitive worldwide market.

How you will be assessed

Practical application

Projects will be set to improve your practical skills, knowledge and understanding. For practical assessments, you will be observed and assessed by an experienced tutor.

Theoretical examinations

External examination papers will assess your knowledge and understanding. This applies to the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • Applying makeup
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Providing eyelash and eyebrow treatment
  • Client consultation for hair services
  • Shampooing and conditioning the hair and scalp
  • Colouring hair using temporary colour

Portfolio

As part of this qualification, you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. This confirm the knowledge, understanding and skills that you have learnt throughout the course.

Where is the course delivered (facilities / classrooms)

The course will be delivered at our Printworks Campus.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are a minimum of four GCSE grades 9-4 (A – C) including maths or English. 

Be prepared to attend an interview to determine your skillset and review your portfolio of creative evidence.

On completion, you will have the necessary skills to progress on to further study for the Level 3 Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair, and Media Makeup course.
